Stacey Speller - 2025 NLC Washington DC Fellow
Stacey Speller, affectionately known as "La HBCU Nuyorican," is a scholar-practitioner dedicated to challenging anti-Black narratives & advocating for equitable policies that support Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) with dual designations as Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs). Her research centers on the policies & practices at HBCUs that enhance educational outcomes for Afro-Latiné/Latiné students. With over a decade of experience in higher education, Stacey has served in roles spanning admissions, retention & student success, student activities, athletics, & diversity and community engagement. She is also the founder of HBCUorgullo, an organization committed to bridging the gap between HBCUs & Latinidad by promoting inclusion, retention, and success for Afro-Latine/Latine students & alumni. Outside of academia, Stacey enjoys spending time with her college sweetheart, their three children, & two beloved fur babies.
