Maryam Alhassani
Maryam Alhassani - 2024 NLC Washington DC Fellow
Maryam Nuha Alhassani (she/her) is a social justice advocate. She stands by the belief that everyone-regardless of religious or ethnic background-deserves to have equal rights. In her current role at the International Research & Exchanges Board, she works to support the development of programming, targeting youth in Iraq to both improve and enhance their access to education. Locally, she works with members of the Muslim and Arab community to identify and address local issues.
Maryam first grew up in Iraq and Jordan then moved to California. During her time in California, she witnessed and participated in both religious and non-profit institutions that worked with local communities to address the needs of the Muslim and Arab communities neglected by local government. The lack of support by local governing bodies pushed Maryam to begin working closely with community members to increase representation, address their needs, and remedy the Muslim and Arab community.
