Maria Vega – Montana
Maria Vega received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Montana State University-Bozeman. She currently works as a clinic nurse serving the Native American population of the Fort Peck Reservation, of which she is an enrolled member. Her interest in politics started as a high school senior after joining the Fort Peck Tribal Youth Council.
Now, she is the current chairperson for the Fort Peck Tribal Democratic Committee under the Montana Democratic Party. In addition to her political endeavors, Maria found a love for public speaking when she competed for Miss Montana USA in 2017. She was the youngest competitor and placed 4th runner-up out of 20 capable women. This opportunity led to a modeling/acting contract with Rocky Mountain Entertainment Agency. In 2019, she received Forward Montana’s 25 under 25 award.
As her confidence grew, Maria found her voice in advocating for tribal youth. In 2020, she created a high school scholarship program and clothing brand in memory of her younger brother, Austin. Her brother was 17 years old and also a member of the tribal youth council. More than just clothing, Auzz Streetwear was formed to help others navigate their journey through grief and loss. Now, Maria hopes to continue her education in healthcare and law to help create more opportunities for Native Youth.
