Lanette Garcia Rivera - 2024 NLC Washington DC Fellow

Lanette García Rivera (she/her/ella) is the Manager of Congressional Relations at Feeding America, where she advocates for policies that make it easier for people to get the food they need. Before joining Feeding America, Lanette served as a Senior Legislative Assistant for Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García, where she led his health and immigration work. In her role as Policy Analyst at UnidosUS, her work focused on examining the impact of child nutrition policy and other federal legislation on Latinos. Lanette began her work in DC as a Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Health Graduate Fellow. Early in her career she was a caseworker at the Illinois Department of Human Services, helping families enroll in Medicaid and SNAP.

Lanette was born and raised in Chicago’s Little Village and Pilsen neighborhoods and is a first-generation college graduate from the University of Michigan, where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
