Karen Guzman

Karen Guzman (She/hers) is a parent, and community organizer at Prince George’s County Educators Association, where she is currently working on innovative virtual organizing with core teams of parent/teacher circles in community schools throughout the county in order to build community power. She previously served as a Health Services Promoter Peace Corps Volunteer in Inharrime, Mozambique supporting Youth Development, HIV, and Malaria prevention initiatives and treatment retention specifically amongst women and adolescents. Karen has also previously worked at Partners of the Americas as a Membership and Strategic Development Senior Officer, and as Community Organizer for United We Dream Affiliate Organizations in Maryland, advocating for immigration rights on a national level and organizing on the local level to get the DREAM Act passed in Maryland. She is incredibly passionate about social justice issues, advocacy, grassroots organizing, working with youth and empowering women to live out their dreams. Karen is originally from Cochabamba, Bolivia and grew up in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, and is a proud Prince George’s County resident. She graduated with honors from the University of Maryland-College Park with a B.A. in Sociology and minors in U.S. Latino/a Studies and International Development and Conflict Management.
