Jolene Gazmen – Oakland

Jolene Christa Gazmen (she/they) is a student at the University of California, Berkeley and an advocate for equity and inclusion within our communities. She champions causes such as accessibility to education, affordable housing, and prison abolition. Jolene is currently a senior at Cal and is slated to graduate in Spring 2022. After attaining her BA, Jolene plans on working within her community for a year before applying to law school. She is a union member of Tenants and Neighborhood Council and serves in several capacities within the university, such as the Teach in Prison Cohort, Events and Outreach Chair for Diversity in Public Policy, Federal Government Relations Deputy Director for the External Affairs Vice President’s Office, an ACQUIRE Coordinator for UC Berkeley, and an Advocate for the Student Parent Center. When she is not balancing work, advocacy and school, Jolene is spending time with her family. She is a proud mother to a rambunctious six year old. Jolene has strong ties within the community in which she lives, and her days off are often used to foster strong ties and help people within her tribe.
