Aaron Niederman - 2024 NLC Chicago Fellow
Aaron Niederman (they/them) is an educator, organizer and communications specialist. In their current role as a Paralegal in Public Benefits with Legal Aid Chicago, they ensure that low-income Chicagoans receive the governmental assistance they deserve. Previously, they majored in Engineering and Philosophy at Vanderbilt University. Extracurricularly, they developed policies and built grassroots organizations to address inequity as a result of Greek Life; they received the award of "Top 10 Outstanding Senior" because of their efforts. Following graduation, Aaron did community organizing with The People's Plaza and Justin Jones-- advocating for reallocation of funding from policing to community resources.
Afterwards, they taught in under-resourced indigenous communities in Taiwan on a Fulbright Fellowship and then went on to receive a Master's in Global Affairs with Schwarzman Scholars in Beijing. Now, they volunteer with the Illinois Poor People's Campaign and IfNotNow Chicago and are interested in more Chicago-based organizing and advocacy.
