Nearly 200 people crowded into the top floor of Local 16 on U Street for New Leaders Council‘s annual 40 Under 40 awards on Tuesday night. Award honorees included: Kate Chapek, former National Women Vote director for Obama for America; Jon Favreau, White House director of speech writing; Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Fla.); and Michael Breen, executive director for Truman National Security Project.

Favreau, who said he will have his last day at the White House on Friday, spoke briefly during the event and joked, “I am not quite used to speaking for myself just yet, so I won’t do it too long,” and Murphy, 28, referenced being the youngest member of Congress by saying, “It felt good getting carded on the way up here. Not sure how many members of Congress get carded.”
